Tilly the Tortoise Celebrates 80th Birthday at Manor Farm

A Hermann's Tortoise who has enthralled and educated more than a million visitors at the popular East Midlands family attraction where she lives, is receiving a prestigious lifetime achievement award to mark her remarkable 80th Birthday milestone.
Tilly the Hermann's Tortoise has been a beloved resident at Manor Farm Park & Woodlands, East Leake, strategically located on the border of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, since arriving as a rescue animal more than two decades ago. Her gentle nature and longevity have made her a firm favourite with children and adults alike at this family friendly farm park.
Despite her impressive age, Tilly continues to demonstrate remarkable vitality, occasionally still laying eggs and enjoying her daily routine of sunbathing under her basking lamp before tucking into her favourite nutritious snack of fresh strawberries.
The dedicated animal care team at Manor Farm Park & Woodlands is commemorating Tilly's significant 80th birthday by creating a brand new home for her comfort and presenting her with a well deserved lifetime achievement award for her contribution to visitor education and enjoyment.
"Tilly came to us after her owner wasn’t able to continue looking after her and has been loved by everyone who has met her throughout her 20+ years with us. She might not be too fast on her feet, but she is a real character so we couldn’t let this milestone go by without saying thank you." explained Manor Farm Park & Woodlands Chief Operations Officer, Jordan St Germain.
Tilly's pen now features a prominent commemorative plaque stating: "Lifetime Achievement Award – presented to Tilly the Tortoise to mark her 80th birthday."
The award ceremony included presenting Tilly with a special helping of her favourite strawberry treat.
Hermann's Tortoises like Tilly are known for their exceptional longevity, with many living up to 100 years in proper care environments. They rank among the most popular tortoise species kept as pets and are frequently found in zoos and animal rescue centres due to their extensive lifespan, which often exceeds that of their human caretakers.
