Manor Farm Park & Woodlands Unveils Exciting Plans For Accessible And Inclusive Lakeside Play Attraction

The scheme includes an inclusive children’s playground featuring specially-designed play equipment and a wheelchair-accessible wooden boardwalk, offering a welcoming area for recreation and interaction.
The project has been boosted by a £40,000 grant from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which provides local authorities with funding for communities, places, businesses, people and skills. It will rejuvenate the XXX lakeside area at the south of the Manor Farm site.
The rehabilitation of land, including the planting of native trees and vegetation, will enhance biodiversity, support local ecosystems, and create picturesque green spaces for visitors to explore nature and wildlife.
The design will ensure that the new attraction is accessible to everyone, including those with mobility challenges, and will provide an opportunity for disabled people and carers to engage in meaningful play and leisure activities in a safe environment.
Work on the project, which will be delivered in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council and play equipment provider Proludic, based in Bradmore Business Park.
It has also been supported by PiPA Play, the campaign to improve inclusive play facilities for children and families across the UK, and The Harley Jae Trust, the Nottingham-based charity dedicated to supporting children with complex medical conditions and their families.
Manor Farm Park & Woodlands Chief Operations Officer Jordan St Germain said: “Accessible play equipment and a new boardwalk are part of our plans to develop our guest offering to ensure Manor Farm is inclusive and welcoming to all members of the community, including individuals with disabilities, families with children and elderly visitors. These improvements reflect a commitment to accessibility, making the environment enjoyable and safe for diverse groups, regardless of physical ability.
“The anticipated impact of this initiative also extends beyond the immediate benefits to Manor Farm and aligns directly with Nottinghamshire's broader ambitions to position itself as a premier tourism destination.”
Kiran Chouhan, Senior Area Manager, for Proludic, said: “We are delighted to be part of this amazing project, which will create a wonderful, inclusive area for the whole family to enjoy.
“Our aim at Proludic is to capture the imagination of every visitor to our play areas through inventive designs, creative ideas on inclusive play and stimulating products. We design our play areas to incorporate all these aspects whilst ensuring we achieve compliance with the relevant legislations.”
PiPA Play director Becky Maddern said: “Providing an accessible and inclusive play park goes way beyond just installing a wheelchair accessible roundabout; it is about providing an environment where children of all abilities can develop their social, cognitive and emotional well-being and play and interact together.
“This project at Manor Farm Park and Woodlands comes at a time when accessible play parks are in the spotlight, and this project can play a significant role in demonstrating what it means to provide a play space which is accessible and inclusive – because all children have a right to play.”
Joseph Rafter, chairman of The Harley Jae Trust said: “We are dedicated to supporting children with complex medical needs and their families. We understand the vital importance of inclusive, accessible, and nature-connected environments for families from all backgrounds and abilities. Manor Farm has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to community engagement, inclusivity, and wellbeing, and their plans for improved accessibility align perfectly with our values.”
